Multiple agencies work together to rescue kitten stuck in pipe

A kitten is stuck inside of a pipe and the city, plumbers, and the humane society are trying everything they are able to to rescue it.

Memphis Public Works sent a camera into the pipe on Waring Road so they could see where the kitten was located.

The city is discussing different rescue tactics.

The most recent include sending a cat trap into the pipe with food on it, in an effort to lure the kitten to safety.

Action News 5's Lindsey Brown on the scene says a plumber will soon start digging.

Earlier, the city was concerned that attempts to reach the kitten could scare it away. They also were worried that digging up the pipe could cause it to collapse, killing the cat.

Social media is exploding with concern about the kitten stuck inside the pipe. People on Twitter are discussing possible names for the kitten, while others are even taking action.

One man, who learned of the situation on the Action News 5 Facebook page, went to the scene and dropped off supplies he hoped the rescuers would be able to use to help free the kitten.
